This internship is designed primarily for freshers, college students, and self-taught developers who want to bridge the gap between academic/tutorial knowledge and the real software job market. You will gain hands-on production experience, work with modern tooling, and develop verifiable proof of work.
Compensation: This is an unpaid learning internship. Top performers who demonstrate high consistency, initiative, and impactful deliverables may be considered for performance-based stipends or paid opportunities, but there are no upfront financial guarantees. Every candidate who completes the program earns an official certificate of internship completion and strong professional recommendations.
Role Overview & Requirements
Join Dropout Developer as a Node.js Backend Developer Intern. Tailored specifically for freshers, college students, and self-taught programmers, this internship is engineered to bridge the gap between textbook tutorials and the modern software job market.
You will work on real-world production microservices, design scalable REST APIs, manage databases, and integrate cutting-edge LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Bedrock). Along the way, you will learn modern AI-accelerated development practices using tools like Cursor and Claude Code to build software at industry speed.
What You Will Work On:
- Assist in designing, building, and maintaining backend REST APIs and microservices with Node.js, Express, and TypeScript.
- Implement production LLM integrations, including streaming completions (SSE), prompt pipelines, token management, and rate-limiting.
- Work with relational databases (MySQL) and caching layers (Redis), writing clean queries and handling data persistence.
- Leverage AI developer workflows (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) for code generation, test writing, refactoring, and debugging.
- Participate in peer code reviews, write automated unit and integration tests, and follow Git branch best practices.
- Implement authentication protocols, input validation, error handling, and API security standards.
Requirements & Who We Are Looking For (Fresher Friendly):
- Foundational understanding of JavaScript (ES6+) and Node.js concepts (event loop, modules, async/await, Promises).
- Familiarity with REST API principles, HTTP status codes, and handling JSON payloads.
- Strong enthusiasm for adopting AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude Code) to solve complex problems and learn faster.
- Basic familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and version control using Git & GitHub.
- Self-driven curiosity, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work and communicate clearly in a remote setting.
- Open to fresh graduates, college students, or self-taught builders who have built personal projects.
What You Will Take Away:
- Verifiable production experience and merged pull requests on active repositories for your portfolio.
- Mastery of modern AI coding agents and production LLM integration workflows.
- Direct mentorship, feedback on architecture, and code craftsmanship guidance.
- Official Certificate of Internship Completion + recommendation letter based on performance.
What working with Dropout Developer looks like
- High-velocity engineering: push real code to production in your first two weeks.
- Hands-on mentorship from senior builders who care about code craft.
- Opportunity to shape educational content and AI developer tools.
- Certificate of internship upon completion + performance-based recommendations.
